Mondelēz announced yesterday that it would stop sales of gum and mint brands to developed countries. Developing countries would continue to see the brands offered.

The decision comes as a result of data obtained throughout the pandemic reflecting changing tastes. Gum and mint products were hard-hit, presumably because masks prevented people from caring about their breath.

Cookie and chocolate sales, however, were in high demand, representing 79% of Mondelēz’s 2021 net revenue. Gum and candy only represented 10%. The plan now, is to generate 90% of its revenue from cookies and chocolate. These items, according to Mondelēz, are more durable categories that have the most potential for growth.
