Teamsters from Local 653 in Boston went on strike this weekend just minutes after midnight on Saturday. Over 300 workers took to the picket lines just days after Teamsters Local 317 in Syracuse called a strike.

“In Boston, management took their abhorrent anti-worker treatment to new lows, giving a take-it-or-leave-it final offer that strips their essential workers of high-quality union health insurance, denies members of a secure retirement with a union pension, and offers meager wage increases amid drastically rising inflation.”, reads a post from the Teamsters Facebook page.

It wasn’t long before 250 members of Teamsters Local 104 in Phoenix took to the picket line in solidarity.

Sysco had this to say:

“The work stoppage at Sysco Boston is unnecessary and union leaders have taken this action with little regard for the damage it will cause to our associates and our customers. Sysco Boston is willing to continue to bargain to reach a resolution.”, said a company spokesman.

Further statements from Sysco argue that their offer was a year-one raise of 7% with a total of 25% over the life of the contract. They also offered company-backed 401k plans and what Sysco reports to be more affordable healthcare options.
