The wheels of capitalism run on deals like this. Yeah, it’s impressive when Amazon embarks on some new phase of world domination, but it’s the actions of the small-timers that have the most effect on everyday business.

Ferraro Foods was already quite the local powerhouse, supplying specialty Italian foods to pizzerias and Italian restaurants from the Northeast coast inland to Missouri, not to mention the producers of Nutella. GDS Foods itself was a fairly powerful supplier to New Jersey pizzerias. This new acquisition will most certainly put further pressure on the smaller distributors, but thankfully, pizzerias are on practically every street corner in the state.

The acquisition adds a few hundred customers to Ferraro’s existing base, as well as a deeper line of imported products. It’s all part of a strategy focused on growth, the most recent show of which was a new 230,000sq ft warehouse in Long Island.

Just watch yourself, Ferraro, Amazon started as a garage-based book seller and grew its way into space, literally.
