No, dear reader, it does not seem as though there are any limits to which a food company will go for a headline. But if you think about it, we’re better off because of it! After all, where would we be if we stopped pushing the boundaries of gastronomy?

As such, Oscar Mayer has seen fit to create the “Stupid or Genius” campaign, a program that gave the creative license to consumers. The challenge given was to find all the weird and wonderful ways in which one could enjoy an Oscar Mayer Weiner. So, what do you think? Was it stupid or genius to create a frozen weiner? I mean, it can’t be any worse than cheese nail polish.

“After the overwhelming fan excitement for our beloved Cold Dog, it was a no-brainer to make this hot dog-inspired frozen pop a reality,” said Anne Field, Head of North American Brand Communications, Oscar Mayer. “For more than 130 years, Oscar Mayer has been sparking smiles and bringing levity into everyday moments, and we are thrilled to bring fans another wonderfully odd way to enjoy our iconic wiener while beating the summer heat.”

Popbar, a frozen desserts company, was awarded the task of bringing the crazy idea to life. Apparently, all of the salty, smokey, and sweet hot dog flavors have made it into the frozen pop, and you will even get a swirl of “mustard” on top, although there are no details as yet on what that “mustard” is.

You can try it for just $2.00, but it will only be served in select Popbar locations. Thankfully for those of us in the Tri-state area, one of those locations is NYC. Even better, a newly decorated Weinermobile is traipsing around down the shore until August 27th. If you see it, you’re sure to score a weiner popsicle.
